2.10) Access From Windows
Though SSH does not come installed with Windows operating systems there are several clients that can be used to provide the required functionality. In addition, an X11 server application will need to be installed to allow for launching remote graphics. Here, we will only discuss two available options.
- MobaXterm. One option is to download and install, MobaXterm, http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net. This application has the advantage of having an inbuilt X-server and so there is no need to install additional software. There is also a portable version of the software which does not require administrator rights to install.
- PuTTY and Xming. The second option is to use PuTTY, http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html, as the SSH client. It does not require administrator rights to install. For the optional X11 server, Xming, http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming, is a free and reliable application.
MobaXterm is easier to install and use, but can be a little slow at times. PuTTY and Xming, require a little more effort to setup but can be more reliable. Please look at the following videos.
