2.2) ARC2 Hardware: Compute Nodes

ARC2 contains:

  • Two login nodes. These are user facing nodes, where most of the user interaction takes place. The login nodes run CentOS 6 version of Linux. Users connect to these via Secure Shell (SSH) protocol.
  • 190 compute nodes mounted on three racks. Each node contains two Intel E5-2670(2.6GHz) processors, i.e. 380 CPUs. Each processor is an 8-core CPU, so that is 16 cores per node and a total of 3040 cores.
  • Each node also contains 32GB of DDR3 1600MHz memory, a 500Gb hard drive and QDR Connect-X infiniband. The latter enables the high speed communication. The local 500Gb hard drives are mounted on /scratch on each of the compute nodes.
