12.7) Saving Figures


Figures can be saved in a number of formats:


Format Description
*.fig The native Matlab format (it's actually a *.mat file with plotting information attached). These files can be reloaded into Matlab as figures and edited further
*.bmp, *.gif, *.png Bitmap, GIF and Portable Network Graphics (un)compressed lossless image formats. Best for rich colour plots
*.jpeg Compress lossless image format, best reserved for non-scientific photographs where pixel-level integrity is not required
*.eps The extended postscript file format, a vector graphics file format good for line plots
*.pdf The Portable Document Format, a wrapper format where the images are compressed
  • Matlab figures can be saved from the drop-down menu in the specific "Figure" window.
  • Figures can be copied and pasted into other programs.
