1.6) "Model For" vs. "Model Of"


The question of interest can take different forms and we can therefore differentiate between models for something and models of something. The former could help the observer answer the question "How to design A to make it fly?", while that letter could help explain "How A is able to fly?". Often models fulfil both purposes in a cyclic process, they might help us understand how socio-ecological systems work first and allow us to test how different interventions impact on the system.
