3.6) Agent-Based Modelling


Agent-based modelling is a bottom up simulation method; where patterns on a higher system level emerge from the interaction of many components.

Main components:

  • Autonomous, social, reactive, and proactive agents (represent natural, physical or social parts of the real system on various scales)
  • Environment (ecological, economic, social or technical environment, influenced by the agents and influencing the agents)
  • Literature: Gilbert & Troitsch (2005), Grimm & Railsback (2005, 2011), Janssen (2002), Tesfatsion, L., & Judd, K. L. (2006).
