2.2) Implementation Of Agent Based Models (cont'd)
Integrated software platforms (NetLogo, AnyLogic might have some similarities but is closer to Repast and is a commercial software)
- Easy to use for beginners (good for courses)
- Provides many ABM things
- Powerful concepts (patches, turtles, ask)
- You can probably do (almost) anything you want, but that might sometimes require work-arounds
- Very easy to share code
- Very good documentation
- User community
- Maintained by active group (Northwestern University)
- Look and feel of video games
- Teaching software
- Model library gives an incomplete idea of NetLogo
- Increasingly used for ‘serious science’
These are the reasons why this introductory course uses Netlogo for ABM. This allows the student to reach a much higher level in a shorter time, being actually able to design, implement and analyse a simple ABM within a couple of hours.
