5.7) Design Concepts (General)


There are 11 design concepts listed in the ODD protocol. Most of these were discussed extensively by Railsback (2001), Grimm and Railsback (2005; Ch. 5), and in Railsback and Grimm (2012) and are summarized in the following questions. The goal of this section of the ODD is more to give a quick overview of which concepts were considered and why. They can broadly be divided in general and agent specific concepts:

General design concepts:

Basic Principles  What are the general concepts and theories underlying the model’s design?
Emergence  What emerges from the model (rather than being imposed)?
Stochasticity  Justification for any stochasticity in the model
Observation  How are data collected from the model for analysis?
