1.1) Overview

R is a programming language and environment in which you can do almost anything by typing commands into a window (a “graphical user interface”: GUI). Other windows will open when you plot graphs or ask for help. But unlike other statistics packages, R only provides the output you specifically request. You can read statistical results straight off the screen, export tables for viewing in spreadsheet packages, and copy graphs to paste into a report.
