1.2) Unix Environment

In almost all Unix systems you will see icons on the lower bar that you can click on and that will bring up the applications such as an internet browser, word processing software, etc., all depending on what version of Unix or Linux is running. There is a wide variety of environments depending on what Unix or Linux you are using. However, don’t be too concerned about the layout because you will be learning the Unix system that underlies this which is where the real scientific processing power resides.
