2.3) Entering Text Into A File

You can enter some text or you can enter a couple of columns of data. Once you are finished writing, you can save the file by clicking on ‘file’ and ‘save as’. Or alternatively within the emacs window you can save by holding down the ‘ctrl’ button and typing ‘x’ and ‘c’ (whilst holding the ctrl button). Now it will ask you if you want to save the contents of the file. Type ‘y’ if you want to save it or ‘n’ for no you don’t want to save it, now hit the return button.

You will have now successfully made your first file and you will be returned to the Unix prompt again. If you type ls you should see ‘newfile’ as listed in your directory.
