5.1) Kaibab Deer

An example of overshoot and population collapse due to overgrazing occurred in the Kaibab plateau in northern Arizona. In an attempt to protect the declining deer population, the Forest Service exterminated their natural predators including mountain lions, wolves, coyotes and bobcats.

As a result the deer population grew rapidly before overgrazing destroyed the grasslands leading to a dramatic collapse in deer population.
