7.2) Adding Variables

  1. In the Sketch Tools bar click on the “Variable” button. Then click somewhere on the build window. This will bring up a text box allowing you to enter the name for you variable – call it ‘Adoption Rate’. Once you have done this press the “Enter” key. Your model now has its first variable.
  2. To edit a variable name, click the “Variable” button in the sketch menu again (you don’t need to do this if it is still selected), then click on the name of the variable you want to edit. This brings up the text box again allowing you to edit the variables name before pressing the “Enter” key to set it.
  3. To move a variable, click the “Move/Size” button in the sketch menu. Hovering your mouse cursor over a variable will turn the cursor into a hand, to indicate that you can move the variable. Click, hold and drag to move the variable around the build window.
  4. You’ll also notice that with the “Move/Size” tool selected, variables have a small circle ‘handle’ attached to them. Clicking and dragging on this allows you to change the size of a variable. You could use this to display a long variable over multiple lines rather than a single line:
  5. Add a further two variables named “Adopters” and “Potential Adopters” to the build window.
